About Free Columbia

Free Columbia began in 2009 as a community-supported, community-oriented, art and education initiative. It is located in the heart of Columbia County, New York, in the post-industrial village of Philmont.

Free Columbia is an arts and education initiative that is based in anthroposophy, the philosophical works of 20th century philosopher and mystic Rudolf Steiner. We are interested in taking that world view as our base and seeing how it is relevant for today’s world. We are interested in teaching out of experience. How can we slow down and experience the world around us and within us? What will we find when we ask questions about what is, instead of what we have heard is true?

At Free Columbia we are dedicated to accessibility.  We have no pay walls.  All of our programming is offered on a self-determined sliding scale. Suggested donation amounts based on what it costs to run courses are provided. It is also possible to make a monthly pledge to support Free Columbia.

All supported by freely given donations.
